An early high-current supply built around a rewound microwave-oven transformer, with a supercapacitor bank to support brief demands for high current. A rectifier on a heat sink converted the output to DC, and a small panel displayed voltage and current. I used nichrome wire as the current-sensing resistor, but felt it wasted too much power as heat. In a redesign, I would use a lower-resistance sensing element.

A different angle on the same power supply, bringing together the rewound transformer, supercapacitors, rectifier, and monitoring components. This was an early experiment in building a supply capable of delivering high current.
